Latest Trends in Hydraulic Systems

Image
The common applications of the hydraulic system perform lifting, holding and gripping. Hydraulic systems will transmit power using the pressure of incompressible fluids. In most of the cases, the fluid is taken from a reservoir using pumps. These are simple, safe, and economic systems that can be controlled easily and accurately. Providing constant force regardless of the speed is an advantage of the hydraulic system. Types Of Hydraulic Systems:  Open loop hydraulic system and closed loop hydraulic system are the two types of hydraulic system. In an open loop system, when the actuating mechanism is idle, there will be fluid flow but no pressure. For a closed loop system, when the pump operates there will be pressure for fluids. The fluid will flow continuously between the pump and the actuator without entering into the reservoir for a closed loop system. Whereas, for an open loop system, the fluid flow from the actuator to the reservoir and then fresh fluid flow towards the pump in...

Finite Element Analysis in Automotive Industry

Image
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a numerical simulation technique used in engineering to analyze and predict the behavior of complex structures under various loads and conditions. In the automotive industry, FEA plays a crucial role in optimizing designs and improving product performance. It allows automotive engineers to virtually test and validate designs before physical prototypes are built, reducing costs and time in the product development process. FEA helps identify potential design weaknesses, such as stress concentrations, fatigue areas, and failure points, allowing engineers to make informed design decisions and optimize components and systems for safety, durability, and performance. FEA also enables the optimization of lightweight structures for improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, as well as the assessment of crashworthiness and occupant safety. Overall, FEA is a critical tool in the automotive industry for accelerating the design process, enhancing product perfor...

Introduction to Micro-machining

Image
The Micromachining is the process of machining very small parts with tools smaller than 0.015 inch in diameter and tolerances of just a few tenths. These kinds of micro holes are required in industries like micromachining is a versatile process and is used widely for machining plastic, glass, metal as well as preparing thin foils. The strength of this technique lies in the systematic use of `batch processing' and physical or chemical processes, with well-known advantages: Very low production costs; no theoretical limit to the possible miniaturization; very precise control of the material structure and composition; use of small quantities of material, which can be rare or very pure; the only possible method that can provide access to some physical phenomena. Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) based processes are mainly used in semiconductor industries such as for the fabrication of integrated circuits (IC), chips, etc. These processes require a tight work-room environment to pre...

Heat Exchangers

Image
What is a Heat Exchanger? Put simply, a heat exchanger is a device that transfers heat from one medium to another, a Hydraulic Oil Cooler for example will remove heat from hot oil by using cold water or air. Alternatively, a Swimming Pool Heat Exchanger uses hot water from a boiler or solar-heated water circuit to heat the pool water. Heat is transferred by conduction through the exchanger materials that separate the used mediums. A shell and tube heat exchanger passes fluids through and over tubes, whereas an air-cooled heat exchanger passes cool air through a core of fins to cool a liquid.   Types of Heat Exchangers Heat exchangers are divided into various types based on different criteria. On the basis of the nature of the heating process:  (a) Direct contact(open) heat generators Direct contact heat exchange takes place between two process streams. The streams can include combinations such as gas-solid, gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, liquid-solid, or solid-so...
